The operational demands on law enforcement today are tremendous.  LEOs are tasked with an ever-expanding host of responsibilities, ranging from tactical operator to mental health counselor.  In addition to the dynamic, seemingly incessant and far-too-often violent nature of criminal activity, the challenges of the field have been further compounded with an increasingly irreverent and confrontational populace.

In addition, politicians and activists regularly align themselves to leverage public sentiment surrounding LEO events for their own agendas.  The most damaging of instances are when a false narrative of LEO actions have been crafted by the media – and erroneously deemed misconduct or criminal in the court of public opinion, thereby setting in motion premature apologies, suspensions and terminations by agency leaders.

The most concerning element is that we have now arrived in an era of “criminal justice reform” which has markedly focused on very concerning campaigns: i.e., the recission of Qualified Immunity for LEOs, the enactment of statutes to criminalize the exercising of various force options; and the installation of progressive District Attorneys in the nation’s largest jurisdictions with the explicit intention of prosecuting LEOs whenever political winds and pressures abound.
